love at first bloom

Ah, camellias. I love everything about that word. For my birthday last year M & D gave me a pink perfection camellia to plant in my yard - my favorite species. This week it had its first blooms of the season. Just two flowers but with several buds to follow. As always, I'm amazed at how perfect God made them - every pale pink petal in a concentric perfect pattern.

This time of year is one of my favorites. I love seeing the buds on flowering trees. They will amaze us overnight with an abundance of blooms as we welcome in the month of February. My neighborhood is full of these beauties as well as a massive amount of ancient camellia trees.

Speaking of which I was just looking on the American Camellia Society website {to which indeed I am a member of the American Hydrangea Society}. Their annual feshtivuhl is during the entire month of February and what I learned today is that it's just south of Ft. Valley, Georgia - home of the peach festival in June and my dear friend Meghan! I don't think I'll be able to make it up there for the event this year but it will definitely be added to the "feshtivuhl list".

I've also been trying to practice with my new camera...but mostly it's a poor excuse to take pictures of flowers arranged in my house. More specifically the photo subject was on, you guessed it...camellias.

p.s. - I got your card in the mail today and I think March would be a marvy time to celebrate the next batch of birthdays ... with barbeque!
