want to go shopping?

It's that time of year again for the Junior League of Tallahassee's annual Whale of a Sale! I will admit, I've never been before but I have heard wonderful things. It's pretty much a glorified garage sale and buzz is you can find some really nice stuff at a really great price. And of course all the proceeds go to a wonderful cause. The sale is this Saturday with a Preview Party and Silent Auction the night before. Click here to find out more information on shopping, tickets, and weekend Whale events.

Hope to see you there!

a lovely little weekend

Happy Valentine's Day...yesterday!

My weekend consisted of fun, family, and food. M&D were in town for their monthly visit and it was special to have them here for this holiday weekend. On Saturday, along with the Micas, we traveled to Thomasville to have lunch at Jonah's Fish & Grits and do some antique browsing. It was delicious shrimp & grits all around + David had the catfish. And of course, we had the fried green tomatoes topped with sundried tomatoes, feta, and balsamic! We also spotted the critters' vehicle and said our hellos as they were eating lunch next door at Liam's. All the downtown shops were having a great sidewalk sale and we managed to pick up a few, most necessary treasures.

On Sunday, I celebrated a sweet Valentine's Day with my Valentine, David. At my request, we cooked dinner at my house last night. We came up with the menu and shopped together but then he informed me he was going to cook - so I obliged. I took to the couch with my new gift...a 1969 edition of Vogue's Book of Etiquette. It was a delightful surprise and I am fascinated by my new read {more on that later}. It also will have a home on my new end table {see final sentence}. We had pecan crusted mahi, orzo, and roasted tomatoes {pictures to come...}. It was some of the best fish I have ever had! We had dessert from my favorite French bakery Au Peche Mignon.

best mahi ever!

Today marks the one year anniversary of me and Fern :) We've had a frustrating few months together but things are on the mend. I forget all the naughty things she has done when I look at her sweet brown doe eyes and see her wagging tail.

Throughout the weekend M&D helped me with some things around my house - a big thank you! Therefore, a post on my new couch is getting closer to its debut...

I'd rather be eating pizza

I had the most wonderful weekend full of new events and good company. As much as I like to travel, I love a good Friday night in Tallahassee. There's something special about 5 o'clock on a Friday afternoon when you don't have to hop in your car and travel 2+ hours somewhere.

David and I went to the First Friday Gallery Hop and it was so fun! We both had never been but it's been on the list. We only had enough time to go to Railroad Square to look around and it was quite the adventure. You might say there's a different breed that frequents that area...and I'm sure they're looking at me asking "why is she here"? But I love being around those people some time. Very hippie, very cool.

Then we were off to Mockingbird Cafe in Havana. They had given me a New Year's card and gift certificate for being a good 2009 patron :) We sat in the music room and our food was delicious, as always. We got some big news that night. The MC will be moving to Tallahassee! As exciting as this adventure is for them, I am so sad. You see this was my mid-week lunch escape. I'm going to miss my to-go orders and meeting friends there for lunch. On the flip side...their new venue is right down the street from my house which brings joy for Saturday lunches and Sunday brunches! One of the most exciting things is that they'll be featuring tons of great live music in their new digs.

On Saturday, we couldn't stand it any longer and had to travel outside of Tallahassee for the day, well, actually we just had tickets to Gator basketball game that afternoon. So we decided to make a day out of it! We went to some antique stores south of Lake City and in historic Micanopy. The weather was beautiful and we found some neat stuff but we plan to go back soon when we have more time.

The basketball game was great and a dear friend had given us her tickets on the 3rd row!! Talk about fun. I can't even remember {if any} the last Gator basketball game I had gone to. We left the O'Connell center with a victory to celebrate. We went to Satchels Pizza and I was happy. Satchels is such a funky place and their pizza is yummy! On our way, we picked up David's sister Allison and had a great evening with her. Our dining experience was also adventurous but I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Sunday was relaxing and the only thing on my to-do list was to take a nap. check. We heard an amazing African boys and girls choir at church on Sunday morning{brought tears of joy to my eyes} and also celebrated David's Grandpa's birthday. Did you know it was also Super Bowl Sunday?? I watched about a total of 5 minutes of it.

Happy Monday and enjoy my weekend in pictures!

sisters supper

Last night was the first sisters supper since Kool Beanz in July, which so happens to have been the same occasion that David Mica came in to my life :) , so we were more than thrilled to be together again - as sisters. In between we've each been quite busy with life, work and family...oh, and Kasey had twins.

We ate at a tapas restaurant downtown and shared five delicious dishes. We also enjoyed those colorful 1/2 off martinis pictured above. We all vowed to have more frequent sister suppers and I think that's the most fabulous thing I've heard all week.

p.s. I see no one is interested in my goods for sale so I'm willing to negotiate on prices if that's what's holding you back!!

{sing} it's my blog and I can post what I want to...

A few items for sale, hence the post title "I can post what I want". And today I would like to sell.

item #1: brand new stylish throw pillows
I purchased a new sofa last week {more on that soon!} and I am not keeping the 4 throw pillows that came with it due to the fact that I want to re-invent the sofa my way. There are two pillows each of two different woven fabrics. They are well made but do not have a zipper for cleanability. You can click on the pictures below to see the colors and design better. I am offering them to any readers first before I post them on Craig's list. They are $15 each...you can buy 2 or 4, but please don't separate the pairs.

item #2: custom window treatment
I have posted this valance on Craig's list but have had no takers. Here was my description -

One 18 ft. (yes, that long!) beautiful French pleated custom floral valance, lined. Approximately 3 years old and in perfect condition. The image below shows the matching smaller valance (not for sale) but the 18' long one is the same style and fabric. The valance should be installed on rings and there are a total of 37 hooks sewn on the pleats. It will be a fabulous addition to any extra wide windows!

These were in a client's home before I received them. They are so beautiful and I thought I could hold on to them until I could actually use them one day. But, I am not that patient and plus the valance is taking up some much needed closet space at my home! Item #2 is $275. You might think it is steep but if you knew how much it was to make this baby you'd be surprised. Also, it was made locally in Tallahassee by our drapery guy...so the craftsmenship is superb!

this is the 6' long valance that is not for sale...just trying to give you a visual

If you are interested {or any friend of a friend of a friend...} in any of these fabulous items please leave a comment with your name and e-mail address. Whether you are seriously interested or just have a question let me know. Please note that any necessary shipping is not included in the prices above.

Happy shopping!
