almost a mica! part II

~First Lady's Luncheon~
Preserving Our Arts and Culture

Aunt Pat and her committee know how to throw one fabulous Florida-themed party! From Lilly Pulitzer to oranges in the centerpieces this was Old Florida meets chic at its finest. As part of Aunt Pat's honored entourage we got to help set the event up very early Wednesday morning. With coffee in hand we laid out all the goodie bags and table decor amongst the likes of Mrs. Boehner, wife of the Speaker of the House, and other distinguished guests and members of the Congressional Club...all in our comfortable clothes {ie. just rolled out of bed} at 6:00am.

We transformed the huge ballroom at the Washington Hilton into this...

a quick shot before the guests entered. a custom lilly pattern was made especially for the event for tablecloths and bags! I came home with an orange tablecloth and can't wait to use it for some fun soiree!

the flowers and decor were fabulous mixing oranges, shells, and fresh vibrant colored flowers

the guest of honor

our tickets!! we attended the vip reception before the luncheon and...I got to meet the first lady! the mica family had one of the few pictures with her but no personal cameras were allowed inside the room.

the tables looked so festive and everyone raved that this luncheon would be hard to beat next year! the front of the program was a highwaymen painting that inspired the pink and orange theme.

the head table...
there was performance stage and runway directly across from the head table. our special table was closer to the stage and runway...properly planned.

we had the good seats! she sang all of her hits and had the whole ballroom "on their feet" including the first lady!

groovin' to gloria

with gloria after the luncheon

that evening we ate dinner al fresco at a great place on barracks row

I loved that they had upholstered wingbacks on casters, nonetheless, outside on their patio

on our last day thursday, we spent in the day with family in old town alexandria. I had the pleasure of meeting david's cousin caroline and the newest addition sweet baby martha jeanne! we had a great waterfront lunch and then rested before heading to the airport.

It was such a wonderful and memorable trip and I can't wait to go back!! I enjoyed getting to attend the First Lady's Luncheon with all of David's sweet, sweet family - whom I can't wait to see again in two weeks! The End.

Mary! My mom was there as well-- and did not take a single picture, so I am excited to see everything she had described in your post!
