Sweet friends came to visit this weekend for girls weekend ~ Sister, Sally Kate, Rian, Hadley, and Heather Lane! The little girls had the most fun announcing throughout the weekend that is was "no boys allowed...except Griffin, he's a boy!" We had the best time visiting and eating our way through the weekend. On Saturday night we had a babysitter come watch the girls so we could go out to dinner. It was just the perfect weekend with friends...the icing on the cookie.

everyone arrived friday night and we headed to el barrio for a hipster kind of dinner and scene. heather lane arrived later that night.
el barrio has created quite the buzz in birmingham and the food scene. it's downtown, industrial chic and one of my faves!

we split tres leches with blueberries and toasted pine nuts for dessert
saturday morning I made banana nut bread for breakfast...
and bellinis!
then we headed back downtown to the mcwane science center. everyone had a blast! there is a special dora the explorer exhibit that the little girls couldn't resist. holly led the way with her map...rogers party of 6!
but first we stumbled on a quick performance from the legally blonde musical. it was so fun to see a few of the musical numbers again and the girls loved all the dancing and singing!

we enjoyed the rest of the exhibits as well. here you can lie on a bed of nails...

if you can believe it or not we don't really eat a lot of pizza in birmingham {sad, I know} but when we do slice is our favorite. best pies - very veggie and the white shadow...
no trip is complete to birmingham without going to dreamcakes!

sunday we had brunch at the much anticipated over easy...rian's been trying to come here for 3 years!
I let the girls pick some of our tomatoes to take home to their daddies

I got this sassy picture as they were headed home this afternoon...meet sweet p the pink cow. apparently this was the highlight of the trip!

Loved the pics even though I look like queasy peasy polly in all of them ;) I would not have missed it though! It was, after all, the icing on the cookie.
