old capitol

I recently applied to become a volunteer at the Historic Old Capitol Building. As you may know, this building is one of the icons of Tallahassee...if you can look past the hideous new capitol building that looms in the background. Back in the 70s it was fought to keep this historic building standing. Obviously, some people were in their right mind during the 1970s' ploy to modernize local buildings. Luckily we won. Oh, and they are always looking for new volunteers :)

My schedule allows me to volunteer for evening special events and on the weekends. So last week my new friend Michelle {director of volunteers, etc.} called and asked if I would like to volunteer at the House & Senate Reunion Reception and Dinner and do some flower arrangements for the event. Well of course! I joked that I was there representing my great-great-grandfather Louis Snavely Light who was a legislator from Marion County back in the early 1900s and walked these halls. It was my pleasure, ol' Facts and Figures.

Tuesday was the event and the flowers were beautiful. I only wished I could've stayed longer but a sore throat was causing me pain to even open my mouth. Catering was by M.A.D. About Food and I do wish I had partaken. They have a little cafe in a local pharmacy that sister and I used to go to weekly when I was in school {you know, when I had the good life!}. Anywho, it's delish!

Here are some pictures from the dinner. Enjoy!

{p.s. Bon voyage to Kristen and Jason as they leave today for their adventure on the AT! Be sure to follow them on their journey through their new blog. They are a hoot! Safe travels K & J and Happy 1st wedding Anniversary!!

the older ladies insisted I took a picture with my work

There weren't fax machines in the early 1900s! Some people say I take after Ol' Facts and Figures!
